Special Report – “Bangladesh Garment Industry: Contextualising Geopolitical Risks Beyond the Vanilla ” [2 April, 2017]

If your business involves the textile and clothing industry (‘garment industry’), and you are heavily dependent on stability in Bangladesh then cause for concern at both the strategic and operational level is genuine. Whereas meeting foreign buyers in Bangkok or hiring security convoys for shipments works short-term, such tactical moves can only go so far in protecting a business model and your strategy. As the quote goes ‘knowledge itself is power’, and in such circumstances knowledge of how political events now will translate into future economic and financial-business risks will empower a company to make the right tactical and strategic decisions in protecting its business goals.

Analysis – Persistent militant activities in Bangladesh highlights needs for increased security preparedness [2 April, 2017]

Bangladesh has witnessed a major escalation in terrorist activities in the month of March, of which the last two weeks, from 17th to 31st March, have been the busiest. Four terrorist attacks were executed in this period, while the security forces carried out four operations against militant hideouts. The upward trajectory sadly continues to climb, currently exponentially, and will continue to do so. The prospects for a spectacular involving foreign nationals as targets in our opinion is increasing in tandem to the threat from improving militant capabilities, terrorist tactics, techniques and procedures.

The global jihadist landscape has been and is in transition, but many are viewing the changes through the prism of the here and now, in the usual responsive manner. These changes are not as sporadic, and as some suggest, responsive to the noose tightening on the Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

Special Report #2/4 – “Growth of militancy and ISIS in Bangladesh” [14 June, 2016]
Our analysis reveals that the introduction of ISIS into Bangladesh has enhanced the operational capabilities of local extremist groups and fostered a more sophisticated jihadist network. Additionally, the anointment of an Emir in Bangladesh indicates that the group has significant plans for the country, as – methodically speaking – such anointment preludes the designation of a local province as part of the caliphate.
